Understanding Myself
You can't really capture someone's entire being in just one sentence, it's too simplistic. We're all complex and constantly changing, so the most you can do is give a snapshot of who you are at a specific moment. That's what I'm doing here, describing myself as I am right now, in this instant.
I have always been better at understanding things than expressing them. Whether it was school or everyday situations, I preferred clarity in thought, even if I could not always find the right words. Over time, I realized that thinking clearly and expressing clearly are two different skills, and both need to be developed.
School Life
My school life was not particularly strong in terms of academics. I was not always consistent, and there were phases where I got distracted from my studies.
Classes 9 and 10 for me happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. With online classes and less structure, it became easier to lose focus, and I went through that phase myself.
However, this period made me realize how easily consistency can break if it is not maintained consciously. Around the same time, I started noticing my interest in logical thinking and problem-solving, even if I was not always disciplined in applying it.
Looking back, school was more about building the foundation of how I approach things today than about achieving results.
Preparation Phase
The preparation phase for competitive exams, especially JEE, was one of the most defining periods for me.
It was not easy. There were phases of low focus, inconsistency, and self-doubt. At times, distractions felt easier than effort. Gradually, I realized that improvement does not come from occasional hard work, but from consistent effort over time.
At times, discussions with peers also helped me stay grounded and understand concepts better, even during phases of low motivation.
This phase taught me patience and helped me develop a more structured way of working. It was less about results and more about learning how to handle pressure and stay on track.
Patterns I Notice
One thing I have noticed about myself is that I do not improve overnight. My progress is usually slow, sometimes almost unnoticeable, but consistent.
It's not really about having a big moment of sudden change, but rather about making small improvements over time. I'm still in the beginning phases, where I'm concentrating on establishing a strong foundation, and I'm doing that by taking it one step at a time, slowly but surely.
Losing and Regaining Focus
There have been times when I lost focus, especially when distractions felt easier than discipline. During those periods, I realized that consistency does not happen automatically and has to be maintained consciously.
Getting back on track was not about waiting for motivation, but about correcting small habits and sticking to them.
Life at NIT Rourkela
At NIT Rourkela, I am currently in a phase of adjustment. College is not just about academics, but also about learning independence, managing time, and understanding priorities.
Interacting with new people has been an important part of this phase. Conversations, group work, and shared experiences have helped me step out of my comfort zone and see different perspectives.
Being part of the campus environment, whether through everyday interactions or events, has also contributed to my overall growth beyond academics.
I am trying to improve not only technically, but also in how I present and communicate my ideas.
Moving Forward
At this point, I'm prioritizing laying a solid groundwork rather than rushing to get immediate outcomes. For me, it's about making consistent headway and having a strong base to build on, instead of just going for short-term gains that might not last.
If I had to describe myself at this stage, I would not describe a finished version. I would describe a process that is still evolving and improving over time.
For now, being in progress is enough.
